SoundTracker

SoundTracker by Karsten Obarski (1987) is the ancestor of all tracker programs. It introduced the revolutionary concept of creating music through patterns of numbered notes and samples — a completely new approach compared to notation-based music software. SoundTracker directly used the 4 DMA channels of the Paula chip. The program immediately became the standard in the demoscene and inspired NoiseTracker, ProTracker and all following trackers. Karsten Obarski is considered the inventor of the tracker concept.
