Paula

Paula is one of the three core custom chips in the Amiga's chipset architecture, responsible for handling four-channel digital audio playback, floppy disk drive control, and serial communication. It features four independent 8-bit PCM sound channels capable of hardware-mixed stereo output with programmable volume and frequency, utilizing direct memory access (DMA) to stream audio data without CPU intervention. Additionally, Paula manages the floppy disk controller for MFM encoding/decoding and provides the UART for serial port functionality, making it a versatile I/O and sound processor central to the Amiga's multimedia capabilities.
