CD32

The CD32 was Commodore's 32-bit CD-ROM-based game console released in 1993, representing the company's attempt to enter the console market. Based on the Amiga 1200 hardware architecture, it featured the Advanced Graphics Architecture (AGA) chipset and the custom "Akiko" chip that handled CD-ROM controller functions and real-time chunky-to-planar graphics conversion. As the world's first 32-bit CD-ROM console, it could run standard CD-ROMs and CDTV discs, but suffered from a limited software library and Commodore's bankruptcy shortly after its launch, leading to its commercial failure.
