Budgie

Budgie was a UK-based software distribution company that popularized the "Licenseware" model for Amiga software in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Unlike traditional commercial software sold in boxes, Licenseware allowed users to obtain programs cheaply through public domain libraries or magazine cover disks, then pay a registration fee to receive the full version and documentation. Budgie distributed hundreds of Amiga games and utilities through this model, providing an affordable alternative to full-price software while giving developers a distribution channel outside traditional publishing. The company became a significant part of the UK Amiga scene, working with both amateur and professional developers to distribute their software through specialized PD libraries and mail order services.
